Roullete (pronounced roh-loh) is an exciting casino game based on guessing which red or black numbered compartment a small ball will drop into when the roulette wheel spins. This is the only game in the casino where players bet against the house, not each other. Each table carries a placard listing the minimum and maximum bets allowed. You should choose a table that fits your budget and stick to it.
Before you begin, talk to the dealer or croupier about buying roulette chips. These are different from regular casino chips because they are colored to indicate their value. The dealer will ask what denomination you want to assign each chip — for example, if the minimum bet is $5 you might buy chips that are worth $1 or $100. Once you have purchased chips, the dealer will place a marker on the winning number, and remove all losing bets from the table. If the ball falls into a black numbered pocket, you win. You can also place bets on a grouping of numbers, color, or odd/even. These bets pay out at higher odds but have a lower probability of winning.
There are two types of bets in roulette: Inside bets and Outside bets. Inside bets include a Straight bet, which is placing chips on a single number; a Split bet, which is placing chips to straddle the line between two adjacent numbers; and a Street bet, which is placing your chips in a row of three consecutive numbers.
